We just wrapped another memorable summer party in Sagaponack. The BAR Truck pulled into a beautiful backyard and set up next to Rolling in Dough pizza truck. In was probably the hottest day of the summer so far, but we had shade from the truck and a slight breeze blowing behind the bar. A jazz quintet with a killer sax player was warming up on the other side of a tent just big enough to give all the guests a little relief from the sun, should they need it. We unloaded our gear and set up the bar, and the host brought over a huge pot of mint asking if we could make use of it in a cocktail. A heat wave can always use a little more mint and the ideas were flowing even before the drinks were.

A small handful of mint leaves muddled with fresh strawberries in a mixing tin, shaken with rosé and grapefruit liqueur, topped with club soda and served in a wine glass with a mint bouquet and The BAR Truck had its first custom cocktail of the day(though not the last).

We poured from high noon into the late evening, when the hosts admonished the band for jazzy takes on Nirvana and Don Maclean to create a rollicking karaoke session fueled by gin and tonics and good company. The BAR Truck was the last man standing per usual, and when it was all a wrap for the night we had a few new drink recipes and more than a few new friends. Just the way we like it.

That photo just about says it all. Easter Sunday was a perfect Spring day, and the lamb had been marinating since the night before. Lemon zest, garlic, rosemary, shallot and a whole bunch of mint slathered all over a beautiful leg of lamb.

A barrel-aged Negroni seemed appropriate while working the grill, before switching over to a killer Garnacha-Primitivo blend with dinner.

While we are still a couple weeks away from our season for the cocktail truck, we’re already in the groove as everything around us in the North Fork comes into bloom. We are ready to be back on The BAR Truck creating new ideas, new memories and new friends. Hope to see you out there!

It seemed for a while here on the North Fork of Long Island that we would coast right past the chilly bite of winter this year and run right into spring. Buds started popping on trees and gnats could be seen swirling around in the light of a setting sun. Short-sleeve shirts and even a few sun dresses popping up here and there.

But we never get off that easy, and a quick change of weather has brought a healthy dose of snow here in March. At this point it’s somewhat comforting, unlike the seemingly relentless bleakness of the last few winter seasons out here.

Snow means logs on the fire place, red wines that comfort like your favorite blanket. And in our house, it means grilled and braised meats, roasted chicken and coma-inducing bone marrow spread on crostini.

Negronis are barrel-aged and occasionally smoked, the better to enjoy with thick-cut bacon.

Spring is just around the corner, and the BAR Truck will be racing around the North and South Fork of Long Island as the demand for mobile cocktail catering continues to grow. So for now, for today, there’s more than a little bit of appreciation for winter and all the good things to come with it.

It was a beautiful evening on Shelter Island last weekend, as The BAR Truck was set up to celebrate the wedding of a local young couple. It was a casual but well-planned affair with our cousin truck, Rolling in Dough Pizza, also in attendance, and a great band set up right between us. The BAR Truck set a satellite bar at the entrance to welcome guests with a cold glass of sparkling wine and strawberry-rosé punch ladled from an antique crystal punch bowl. Meanwhile, on the truck, ice cold draught beer was pouring fast early on, eventually transitioning to Negronis and rye Manhattans as the evening breeze picked up to cool everyone off. We love a well-executed Manhattan with great ingredients when we are not manning The BAR Truck, so that certainly comes through when we make them for others.

It was another special night that the staff on The BAR Truck was proud and grateful to be a part of, and we wish the bride and groom many, many years of happiness and at least a few more parties with The BAR Truck!
